The Built Environment Working Group's aim is to make the village centres more attractive for local people and visitors, to promote Grassmoor and Hasland's existing offer and attract new interest from outside the area from both visitors and inward investment.

In previous year’s the Working Group has linked up with local business and community groups to provide summer flowering displays in Hasland village centre and environmental projects such as the wildflower project to raise awareness about biodiversity, bees and pollination. Since 2018, the Working Group has established an annual programme of events that local residents both look forward to and participate in that help to create a sense of place. These include Grassmoor Village in Bloom, Grassmoor Village in Lights and Christmas Trees on Hasland and Grassmoor High Streets. 2020 has been a most unique and difficult year because of the Covid-19 pandemic but GHBL working groups have continued to deliver their programme wherever it has been possible to do so. The Built Environment Working is no exception and Christmas 2020 will once more see Christmas trees light up and twinkle outside Grassmoor Methodist Church, Hasland Methodist Church and Hasland Working Men’s Club.

Grassmoor in Lights Competition

 Grassmoor in Lights had another glittering year, several of the residents brought extra sparkle to the community and lit up their gardens and houses.

The competition results are in!

BUSINESS- First prize; The Sportsman inn. Second prize; The Peak Pharmacy. Third prize; Clare's Cafe.

RESIDENTS- First prize; Maurice Wardle. Second Prize; Joint winners Sandy and Jade, Sean Rowland. Third prize; Sabrina Smith, Sharon Fletcher.

The Senior Citizens Working Group supports inclusive social activities across a range of interests which provide older people with opportunities to engage and participate within their community whilst keeping fit and improving their digital awareness.

Coffee, Tea & IT Plus, Strictly No Falling, chair based exercise and Generation Games.

Coffee, Tea and IT Plus, is a one to one project that enables older residents to bring in their electronic devices and improve their digital awareness as they learn to send emails, shop online, get in touch with friends, take photos and anything else they wish to try. 

Running alongside the C, T & IT sessions are Generation Games physical activities such as new age kurling and Boccia, both of which can be played sitting or standing and Strictly No Falling chair based exercises. Three volunteers, David Maric, Barbara Arrandale and Kyle Wall-Billyeald, have taken part in an Age UK Derby Derbyshire training course and are fully qualified to instruct Chair Based Exercise classes

Sessions run throughout the year, every Thursday morning 10:00 to 12:00 in the Hasland Hub which is located within Hasland Working Men’s Club.

Men In Sheds

Do you enjoy making or repairing things? Would you like to learn new skills or share your skills and knowledge with others? Do you have some spare time? Or would you just like to meet up and socialise with like minded people over a coffee? If so you are invited to come and meet us at one of our weekly sessions.

We have two fully fitted workshops suitable for most woodwork projects, we are happy to provide advice on DIY projects and provide training for new members no matter what skills or experience you have. We have members who have worked with wood related jobs for most of their adult lives and some with little or no experience.

Many of our new projects are aimed at supporting wildlife and we hope to see our nesting boxes, bee & bug hotels and bat roosting boxes in use in the local community, we have also been experimenting with pyrography designs. We plan to attend local functions this summer including Grassmoor Fun Day and Hasland Gala where a full range of our hand made products will be on sale. We aim to reopen our busy workshop when Government rules permit indoor meetings and we are looking forward to welcoming new members to our group.If you want to learn new skills or share your passion for making things then come and have a chat with us. Grassmoor & Hasland Men in Sheds meet every Tuesday & Friday from 14.00 to 17.00 in their workshop at the rear of Grassmoor Methodist Church, Chapel Road Grassmoor S42 5EJ.

Grassmoor Past & Present History Group

Grassmoor Past and Present is a local history group open to all who are interested in researching family or local history. Through the group Facebook page members can post their memories, photographs and knowledge of the village and its history. You can access the Facebook page by clicking on to the following link. https://www.facebook.com/groups/386169955470875/. If you wish to make contact with lost family and friends this is a good place to start. Membership is free and open to all. The group also holds monthly committee meetings and members of all ages are welcome to attend. Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 lockdown and continuing restrictions meetings are not taking place but as soon as restrictions lift they will resume at Grassmoor Community Centre, dates for 2021 can be found in the events calendar below

The members committee are involved in research and the current topics are: - local families and named people on the Methodist Church and school foundation stones and lastly relocation of the Miner's Colleiry Wheel.

The Working Age Families Working Group is focusing on activites to increase employability skills, community enterprise and business engagement and to tackle issues such as financial exclusion, healthy eating and social isolation.

DUWC Advice Sessions

To ensure people have access to support on issues such as debt and financial exclusion GHBL has commissioned Derbyshire Unemployed Workers Centre to run drop in sessions at Hasland Hub, Hasland Working Men's Club, Hampton Street, Hasland S41 0LH every Wednesday afternoon between 1.30 - 3.30pm. Similar sessions are held at Grassmoor Community Centre, New Street, Grassmoor S42 5EE on Thursday mornings between 10am - 12noon, funded by the Parish Council.

Runs every forth Wednesday, doors open at 10am, film advertised in the Board outside the Hub @ the Club. everyone welcome. £1:50 charge, free refreshments.
