Grassmoor and Hasland Youth & Children Support Group

The Grassmoor and Hasland Youth & children Support Group's focus is on activities for different age groups of young people, including sports, cultural, educational or recreational sessions and developing links with young people and their parents and carers through their schools, groups and community events.

Summer Activities

The group has worked hard engaging with partners and activity providers to run a series of activities in the summer holidays at both Eastwood Park and Barnes Park.  This has helped develop links with young people and their parents and carers as well as providing fun things for children and young people to do in the school holidays. The Summer Activities Programme 2021 is going ahead and will be a 6 week holiday programme offering Samba Sports activities; Mondays and Wednesdays, 11am - 3pm Eastwood Park, Hasland. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11am - 3pm Barnes Park, Grassmoor. Wanted volunteers on hand to enable us to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day.  If you can spare some time in the summer holidays, whether for one session or more, please get in touch with one of our support workers as soon as possible by email: This email address is being protected from spambots. 'Make at Home Meals' bags for youngsters were provided by Fare Share/Rural Action Derbyshire and administered by GHBL volunteers during the summer and half-term holidays and we hope these will continue so watch out for information as each holiday approaches. During May 21 half term our volunteers distributed 4 large shopping bags of food to each of 59 local families. A huge thank you goes out to our volunteers and Grassmoor Community Pavilion.

Easter Egg Hunt went ahead 13th April at Barnes Park attracting 57 Children (and their Parents) and again on the 20th at Eastwood Park. All children received a healthy packed lunch, easter egg and the we also provided craft activities and team played sports by Samba!

Valley Cids Blend Youth Outreach Project

Youth Workers are out and about in Grassmoor every Monday evening between 6.30 - 8.30pm providing a weekly youth activity programme for young people aged 11 - 18 from Barnes Park Community Pavilion. The first hour of the session is aimed at the younger children and the latter hr for the older end. Check out Blend's website here.

Community Support Service

Our overarching priority is to engage and involve as many people as possible to help shape focus and deliver a range of local activities, developing strong relationships with residents, groups, businesses, service providers and community facilities. Key elements of our Communications and Engagement approach are:

  • An annual Forum and monthly Partnership Board meetings that anyone can attend
  • Public meetings to enable people to get involved with existing, and develop new projects
  • Engaging with stakeholder groups directly (e.g. schools, groups and service providers)
  • Dedicated workers to support groups to set up new projects and recruit and develop the capacity of volunteers to be able to turn ideas into reality
  • Dedicated contact links, such as telephone, email, website, Twitter and Facebook (see back page), linking to partner sites wherever possible
  • Using established printed media including local press, shopper’s guides and council publications and producing our own publicity materials
  • Electronic information screens and posters in local shops, venues and notice boards
  • Organising our own or attending other local community events, using our “Big Red Tent” to promote GHBL and engage with the local community in an informal setting.
  • Delivery of a Small Grant Application Fund providing up to £500 for local groups

GHBL Support Workers

GHBL currently employs 2 part-time Support Workers, Dallas and Karin, to act as the interface bertween the community and the Partnership. Their role is to listen to the community and its ideas, present these to the Partnership Board for consideration and pass back its decision.  They provide advice and support to projects to ensure that they are successful and create outcomes that underpin those of Grassland Hasmoor..., and encourage ongoing community engagement and inclusivity.  If you have any questions about Grassland Hasmoor... Big Local or to find out more about any of the projects or activities below, please contact Dallas This email address is being protected from spambots.  Digital Display Screens

Several businesses in Grassmoor and Hasland have signed up to host digital display screens featuring regularly updated information about GHBL to keep their customers up to date with GHBL activities and events in the two villages and how they can get involved.  If you would like your business to host a screen, please contact one of our Support Workers.

Useful Information Leaflets

One of the first ideas this group had was to produce Useful Information Leaflets for each village containing details of activities, clubs and services in the area.  In 2020 both Information leaflets will be online documents only and you can find Grassmoor Useful Information Leaflet here and Hasland Useful Information Leaflet here.  If you know of any other regular activities that take place in your area that could be included in future, please let us know.

 Summer Events

GHBL sponsors two annual summer events, Eastwood Park Gala, a long established and well attended event organised by Friends of Eastwood Park and Grassmoor Funday which was established by GHBL as a result of our earliest community consultation that identified the desire for an annual event in Grassmoor along the lines of the Gala.  The events take place in June and July respectively and you can find out more about these in the Events section of this website.
