GREEN AND OPEN SPACES WORKING GROUP
The Green & Open Spaces Working Group's aim is to continue to develop and improve the range of community assets associated with the walkways and green infrastructure which link the two communities of Grassmoor and Hasland and their surrounding areas.
The Green & Open Spaces working group (GOSWG) volunteers have worked with statutory bodies over recent years to open up and improve footpaths and green spaces in and around the communities of Hasland and Grassmoor, replacing stiles with gates to enable many walkers who previously found the paths inaccessible to enjoy our fantastic countryside.
Continued improvements and maintenance have continued on the Public Rights of Way which included replacing all the stiles with accessible gates, improved signage, infilling the worst areas of the footpath surfaces, interaction with local Landowners, Hedge cutting and much more.
Our ongoing presence on local action groups contributed to the installation of the cycle path along Furnace Hillock Way connecting Winsick to the main Hasland – Grassmoor Road and to the ongoing central link to the new Avenue Country Park We were also involved in the wonderful new link path from Storforth Lane in Hasland to Derby Road and the improved cycle path int Chesterfield. We continue to actively lobby DCC regarding the path from Ingleton Road to the Avenue and update on the adoption of the Bridge over the railway at the Mill Lane end of the Avenue Washlands / Avenue Country Park.
When all permanent access points are complete the Avenue Country Park and the Lagoons section of the Grassmoor Country Park is open to the public, the group can finally prioritise round walk routes, signage and where agreed, interpretation boards, seating and Geocaching.

EASTWOOD PARK PETANQUE CLUB (EPPC)
Another exciting project initiated by the Green and Open Spaces Working Group was the construction of a Petanque facility in Eastwood Park which was opened in 2016 The club has currently over 40 Members playing the friendly sport of Petanque (French Boules). Offering moderate exercise in a friendly sociable setting, Eastwood Park Petanque Club now offers several sessions a week. The EPPC welcomes players with or without experience who wish to leisurely social play or those who wish to develop into competitions. The club is now well established in the Mercia Petanque Region that takes in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. No experience or equipment is required. (During the current COVID restrictions we are operating under strict protocols, hopefully for not very much longer. Please still make contact to discuss the options and register your interest.

FRIENDS OF GRASSMOOR COUNTRY PARK (FGCP)
GCP was set up early in 2018 as a result of the Green and Opens Spaces Working Group identifying that Grassmoor Country Park still has great potential for further development. The group's initial aim was to work with Derbyshire County Council and other partners on initiatives to develop GCP into a more attractive, usable and relative green space for our local communities and wider interested people. The Friends of Grassmoor Country Park have achieved most of our initial aims and much more. We have planted over 100 trees, countless wild flowers, we have seen a new car park constructed. And access paths resurfaced Volunteers have been extremely active carrying out repairs and improvements to the Picnic tables, coppicing, ground clearing in various areas An Ecology Survey was carried out on behalf of Friends of Grassmoor Country Park that has resulted in the park receiving Derbyshire Wildlife Trust designation. Our ongoing aim is to see the Lagoons section of the GCP integrated with the rest of the park creating a 2.5km round route and opening up the fantastic views over Chesterfield and beyond
