Great News!
Grassmoor and Hasland have been given the status of a Big Local Area from the Big Lottery Fund. This will ensure that the area receives £1m+ of funds over the next 10 years. This money, along with other dedicated assistance, is aimed at supporting residents to make the area an even better place to live.
We are one of only 150 areas in the country to have Big Local, so we want to make the most of it! We held a competition to name our local programme, and in the spirit of an inclusive community, it will be known as Grassland Hasmoor...
I have been elected as chair of the Partnership which is made up of local residents and stakeholders who have been tasked with finding out more about what local residents see as the main priorities on how to change the area for the better.
Please look around our website to find out more about Big Local, the work to date, forthcoming activities and who else is on the Partnership.
We need to hear from YOU!
If you have any questions, comments or wish to get involved we would love to hear from you so that together the people who live in Grassmoor and Hasland can make their community an even better place to live.
Hope to be working with you soon!

The important bits of Big Local are:
- It is "resident-driven"
- It aims to support local talent
- It embraces local skills & energy
- It aims to inspire ambition
- It is practical and innovative
- It aims to be fun and exciting
We have already spoken to many people in Grassmoor and Hasland to find out their priorities and are keen to continue to engage and include as many people as possible in the Partneship, working groups and local events and activities.
Getting Started:
To get started, an interim Steering Group of local residents and stakeholders came together to find out about what local residents see as the main priorities on how to change the area for the better. As part of this Big Local has:
- Funded local voluntary sector groups to consult with local people
- Supported community groups to feedback residents priorities
- Sponsored a number of Key Events in the area
- Undertaken door-to-door questionnaires
- Used social media (website/twitter) to engage as many people as possible
Exploring our Big Local vision:
We have asked local people how the area might change for the better, what people like now, what should change, what would people like to build on and what can be done to build on what is already good about the area and the existing talents, skills and abilities of people locally.
At this stage, not everyone’s vision was the same, so rather than arrive at a shared vision we created a profile of the area (what the area is like now) and, importantly, engaged a wide range of people and groups about their hopes and vision for the future. See the Community Profile article in the News section of the website for more details.
Forming our Big Local partnership and Creating our Big Local Plan:
Once visions had been collected, the next stage involved creating a Big Local Partnership to guide the overall direction of Big Local in our area and make sure a diverse range of residents and local organisations continue to be actively involved.
The majority of members will be residents, but the partnership will also include people from local organisations that are involved with our area as well. Membership of the partnership will change over time in response to our Big Local activities and it will be reviewed at least annually.
We will also be moving from a range of visions to a shared long-term vision and Plan. Our plan builds on what is already good about the area, provides community-wide benefit, aims to respond to local needs and shows how we will meet Big Local's four outcomes as well as proposals on how best to use the £1m+ funding over the next 10 years.
What Next: Delivering our Big Local plan
Delivering the plan will involve a range of activities which will be overseen by the Partnership. The Plan shows how the money has been allocated to the priorities that were identified in our Local Profile and covers the next 10 years.
