Grassmoor Fun Day

Despite heavy rain in the morning the Grassmoor Fun Day went ahead as planned. The loyal community turned out in strength to support the event and enjpyed a wide variety of stalls and activities including Healthy Eating, three bouncy castles, a climbing wall, sports activities and competitions by the young people.

MP Natascha Engel spent most of the afternoon visiting all the stalls and attractions and speaking to everyone, accompanied by Stephen Wright, Chairman of the Interim Steering Group. She was introduced to Local Trust Chief Executive, Debbie Ladds; Dave Brennan, the Big Local Representative who supports and advises the local committee; Steve Lee NEDDC Strategic Partnership Co-ordinator who does a great deal of work and planning on the Steering Group's behalf; Barbara and Philip Arrandale, David Maric, Nigel Combes and Ian Mather.

Stalls and displays included NHS Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group staffed by Sue Higginson and Jean RIchards; a healthy eating workshop run by Coral Thorp from Chesterfield Children's Centre; Chesterfield Time Bank; Staveley Armed Forces and Veterans Association staffed by Joe Roberts, Julie Dixon, Margaret Cooper and Marian and Joe Gerrard; St James' Chruch Temple Normanton staffed by Maureen Raybold, Kath Potter, Margaret Sheikh, Barbara Marshall and Julie Marshall. 

Rykneld Homes volunteers and staff Jan and Terry Blanksby, Jessica Blanksby, Jude Milburn, James Lindsay, Hazel James, Charlie Hibbert, Jonathan Hibbert, James and Josh Heath and Harvey Connor - these young people are to be congratulated for all their hard work and their polite and friendly manner.

The Royal British Legion Biker Branch were present, and Grassmoor Brownies under Sandria Mather and Amanda Millward.  The Mentally Handicapped Stall was run by Mr and Mrs Bestwick and Michael Bestwick; Friendship Club with Iris Woodhead, Maureen Walker and Angela Alton; Grassmoor Allotments with Richard Egerton; Spire Nursery stall and Janice Bedford who also ran a stall. St John Ambulance were in attendance with David Chapman, Sandra Smith and Irene Buttry.  The bouncy castles were supplied by Dave at Kids Stuff, Sporting Futures by Andy Wilson and the climbing wall by Ian Webb.

Thanks go to the team of people who supplied the transport for chairs, tables and marquee and to the team who erected and dismantled the marquee and to the litter pickers. These groups include David Knott, Nigel Combes, David Maric, Pam and Keith Hemsley, Philip and Barbara Arrandale and official photographer Rob Whitehead.  Thanks also go to Woodleigh Motors who kindly loaned a van at short notice to help with transport and to everyone else who has not been mentioned for all the help and support given to make the Fun Day the success it was!
